Lucid Absinthe

SPIRIT PACKAGING DESIGN

In designing this packaging I wanted to explore this idea of "lucid drunkness" or "clear-headed inebriation" that is talked about in relation to the experience of drinking absinthe. Absinthe has historically been portrayed as a hallucinogen, although we now know that properly manufactured absinthe does not cause hallucinations. I chose to design contemporary feeling packaging that referenced this history, as well as the common imagery found in absinthe packaging and advertising (like eyes, fairies, butterflies and wormwood).
